In follow-up to 5 reasons Macs are better than PCs, I present to you 5 reasons PCs are better than Macs.
I was amazed last week to see that KSL readers are split 50, 50 on their preference of operating system. The reader poll asking "Are you a Mac or PC" came in with 51% prefer Mac and 49% PC.
And may I just say that Mac users are much nicer than PC users? With both of these articles I have gotten a few comments via email, blog comments, KSL comments or tweets with why I'm wrong. Let me say it again, Mac users are so much nicer!
But I always have to laugh looking through the KSL comments. So many people don't understand that different people can value something more or less than you do. Just because you like one thing doesn't mean everyone does.
Hopefully people can, between the two articles, see that each platform has its own strong points.
1) Most people are happy to pay more to get components work better together, no blue screen of death.
ReplyDelete2) Don't need to pay for M$ Office. Use google docs, or get open office.
3) Any relevant games worth playing also run on the Mac. Steam even runs under ubuntu linux now; and rumor is it performs better.
4) Why are people still adding hardware after the initial purchase? Computers should last years without needing modifications or further investment.
5) 1 for 1; learning curve is much higher on a PC. Just because you know something doesn't make it more efficient or elegant to use. Challenge yourself a bit and think outside the 'box'.
Bonus:
At least you had the good sense to not add the 'bonus' items to your main list; your arguments are weak at best.
You make some compelling arguments. I personally prefer Macs over PCs, just as you seemingly do.

People do get pretty intense with comments sometimes :) I'm so used to PCs that it seems scary to switch to a Mac (so number 5 in your article), but I LOVE my iphone and am happy I didn't get an android. We'll be PC users for the foreseeable future since Matt's a gamer. I loved your articles and think they fare assessments of each brand's strong points. If only politicians could try and look at each side of the argument!

PS- Were you expecting a different result with the Mac vs. PC poll? Or just surprised that is was almost dead even?
ReplyDeleteI was so surprised because globally it's 7% of computers are Macs, and 91% are PC. The KSL poll shows that either (a) KSL readers are actually 50% Mac users, (b) lots of PC users would actually prefer Mac, or (c) Mac users were more interested in reading why Macs are better than PC users.
